Diss-Order Alley line-up and heavier highlights:

Diss-Order Alley offers up ska, punk and metal. This will sit alongside a truly eclectic mix of already announced headliners on the Town Centre stage including rock-rap supergroup Prophets of Rage, Slaves, Gogol Bordello, Killing Joke, Therapy, Atari Teenage Riot and two-tone legend Neville Staple Band.

Boomtown’s diverse line-up fuses with innovative theatre and incredible immersive set design to create a living, breathing fictitious city. As part of this city, Diss-order Alley returns after a memorable inaugural year in the guise of an abandoned military base overrun with an autonomous community of punks. There are four venues, where Boomtown’s long standing ska punk and metal community are treated to a mix of genres and artists from definitive figures in the scene to boundary pushing sounds from the underground.

Last Gang in Town present the flagship punk venue Hangar 161, which is in the form of a full scale aircraft hangar and is headlined by American punk rock icons, the politically minded Pennywise who are now in their 30th year. Alongside them, will be energetic crust-punk from Leftöver Crack, the welcome return of homegrown ska punk stalwarts King Prawn, anarcho-punk from Subhumans and, flying the flag for grindcore, Extreme Noise Terror. Showcasing the global reach of punk, Boomtown will have a solid Russian contingent represented on the bill with; thrashcore punks Svetlanas, adrenaline charged thrashers Siberian Meat Grinder as well as the return of Moscow Death Brigade with their unique politically charged blend of techno, rap and punk. Fresh out of East London, Nova Twins will be bringing their self proclaimed ‘urban punk’ to the festival with an energetic, bass heavy, grime influenced set.

Pioneering independent record label Earache Records are back with their venue Earache Factory dedicated to extreme and heavy sounds. Grindcore ambassadors Napalm Death head up the line-up and are joined by Swedish melodic death metal masters At The Gates, Brummy industrial metallers Godflesh, Canadian hardcore punk act Cancer Bats and Japanese Crossfaith with their unique fusion of electronic with metalcore.

The Bunker brings a totally global ska line-up to the newly named ska hub; Brazilian ska-core from Abraskadabra, reggae, rap, ska crossover from Italian 12 piece Shanti Powa, from France; ska-punk party starters Skarbone 14 and Beer Beer Orchestra and Spanish ska flavours from Limando. Representing the UK there is two-tone inspired ska pop from Death of Guitar Music, raw, ballsy ska punk from Millie Manders & The Shut Up and lairy ska-soul from Brighton’s The Meow Meows. Joining them will be heaps of Boomtown favourites including Skata Tones, Crinkle Cuts and The Midnight Zu and a very special set celebrating 40 years of two-tone from Wrongtom.

And don’t miss The Freak Boutique, tucked away in the alley they are one of Boomtown’s longest standing underground collectives and will be presenting a line-up stretching the breadth of punk subgenres with a taste of the scene’s best kept secrets.

We did a Q&A with Boomtown’s Sustainability Co-ordinator – Emily Ford:

Pre-pitch tents seem to be an increasing trend and demand for festivals, could you see camping events going mostly/all pre-pitched in the future? Potentially yes, anything is possible. Why buy a tent that won’t last past one use from a big supermarket when you can hire one for the same price at the festival – and have it put up for you! Camplight is one of our which is a pre-pitched providers and all their tents have been salvaged from other festivals, it’s 100% sustainable camping!

Lak (festival co-founder) opened up an interesting debate about the event possibly pushing forward with all/mostly vegan food vendors. Is that a realistic option or scenario for the future of the festival? There are many different conversations about what Boomtown is doing to protect our planet, and these include some radical ideas for Chapter 11 and going meat free is indeed one of them! …
